This Is My Happy Place

This Is My Happy Place

Aaahhhhh….. my heart is happy. We made it to St. Louis! We’ve been here for 35 days, and I already feel more settled here than I did my entire 16 years in Los Angeles. And Hubs said he feels like he belongs here, and he’s never lived here before! Just goes to show we made the right decision. Here are some highlights from our first month in our new home:

4 days after we arrived: our furniture arrived! I’d heard stories of people waiting for their moving trucks for 2-3 weeks, so 4 days was awesome. It was perfect timing too because the night before the truck got here, the air mattress we were sleeping on sprung a very slow leak.

5 days after we arrived: I broke out in the Shingles virus. Apparently the whole packing up our lives and moving to a different state with no job prospects was more stressful than I thought. Let me tell you, if you’ve never had Shingles, get the vaccine! This is some of the worst pain I’ve ever felt. Yuck.

This is not me, this is some other poor person with Shingles. But you get the picture.

3 weeks after we arrived: Hubs got a job! And it seems it is one he was meant to get. We arrived in St. Louis the day before Easter. On Easter, we went to a gathering where Hubs met an architect he hit it off with. This architect gave him the names of three builders in the area, including one who just happened to be looking for a Project Manager, which is what Hubs does. 3 interviews later, bammo! The job was his. And he loves it.

We’ve also seen tons of family, eaten many great meals, and explored our beautiful neighborhood. Tomorrow we’re heading downtown! Hubs has never seen the Arch, so we’re going to be tourists for a day. He’s afraid of heights, so I’m not quite sure I can talk him into riding up to the top, but we’ll see.

And I’ve been getting my workshop in order, so I’ll be able to take custom journal orders again starting next week! Very excited about this. I’ve been itching to get back to my creativity.

So. One month down in our new state, our new city, our new home. I can’t wait to see what the future holds, but in the meantime, I’m enjoying every minute of the present.
